There are today a total of 18 municipal companies. Of these, eight companies are 100 percent owned by Umeå Kommunföretag AB.

Ten companies are partly owned by Umeå Kommunföretag AB and are run in collaboration with other owners who may be private actors or authorities.

New companies are formed and wound up as needed. Sometimes companies are sold or put to rest. Some of the municipal companies also have their own subsidiaries

The Port of Umeå owns and manages the port's facilities.
